Mosaic Flooring




A concrete base is prepared and 5 to 8 cm thick layer of lime surkhi mortar is spread over it in such an area which can be easily complied without the mortar getting dry. On this layer, a paste consisting of 2 parts of slaked lime, one part of powdered marble and one part of puzzolana material is laid in a thickness of about 3 mm. After about 4 hours the laying of marble pieces or tiles is started and laid to a desired shape and pattern.
After laying the marbles or tiles, the surface is gently rolled by light roller about 30 cm in diameter and 45 to 60 cm in length. Water is sprinkled every now and then to work up the cement between the marble pieces while rolling. This rolling is done till the tile or marble pieces from an even surface and is cemented together properly. It is then allowed to dry for 24 hours and is then rubbed with a pumice stone fitted to a long wooden handle. The finished surface is dried for about 15 days before it is used.
