Types Of Piles Foundation



These types of piles are used most commonly which are as under :

i)Bearing Piles :

These piles are driven up to a hard stratum in the ground to act as pillars for the superstructure.

ii)Friction Piles :

When hard stratum is not at a reasonable depth, the loads are transmitted by the friction between the surface of the pile and surrounding soil.

iii)Sheet Piles :

Sheet piles are used to construct retaining walls, bulkheads, and cofferdams, etc. Sheet piles may be of steel, reinforced concrete or timber. Steel sheet piles are most commonly used for piles. Sheet piles are advantageous over the other types in the way that they have high resistance to driving stresses, have lightweight, can be reused and can be used for subsoil and marine construction. Steel piles can be lengthened by welding or bolting. Steel sheet piles are manufactured in various typical forms. Some of the commonly used types of steel sheet piles.
