Penetration Test

This test is carried out to find out the hardness or consistency of the given bituminous material for deciding its suitability for the construction work of a road pavement.

In this test penetration of a standard needle in the bituminous material is considered as a measure of hardness or consistency of that material.

This test is performed to know whether the given bituminous material fulfills the standard specification. This test is carried out on the fresh material assures the user that the consistency of the material under reference will be correct at the time of processing. The residue test assures the correctness of the consistency after curing.
