Location survey - definition and objective

The centerline of the road finalized in the drawings is to be translated on the ground during the location survey. This is done by using a transit theodolite and by staking off the centerline.

1) Major and minor control points are established on the ground and center pegs are driven, checking the geometric design requirements.

2) The centerline stakes are driven at suitable intervals, say 50m in-plane and rolling terrain and 20 m hilly terrain.
