Types of foundation

Foundation is of several types. It can be classified, broadly, in two categories -

i)Shallow Foundation.

ii)Deep Foundation.

Again shallow foundations can be subdivided into four categories -

• Spread footings.
• Combined footings.
• Strap footing.
• Raft or Mat foundation.

The deep foundation may be of the following types -

• Deep strip, rectangular or square footings.
• Pile foundation.
• Pier foundation.
• Well, foundation.
