Stepped or Benched Foundation

These types of foundations are constructed when the ground is sloping. To avoid sloping foundation bed or excessive depth of cutting or excavation stepped foundation is provided. This is achieved by cutting the portion of the foundation trench in steps. Each step should be less then the depth of concrete provided, preferably a multiple of 10 cm so as to fit in with the brick course if brick masonry is provided.
