Road Deterioration

-Sudden increase in traffic loading especially on new roads where the look relies on lesser traffic may be a major reason for cracking. After the development of an honest road, traffic of other roads also shifts to it road. This accelerates the fatigue failure.

-Temperature variation starting from 50° C to below zero conditions within the plain areas of North and Central India results in bleeding and cracking.

-Provision of poor shoulders result in edge failures.

-Provision of poor clayey sub-grade ends up in corrugation at the surface and a rise in unevenness.

-Poor drainage conditions especially during rainy seasons, force the water to enter the pavement from the edges also as from the highest surface. within the case of open-graded bituminous layer, this phenomenon becomes more dangerous and therefore the top layer gets detached from the lower layers.

-If the temperature of bitumen mixes isn't maintained properly, then it also ends up in pavement failure. Overheating of bitumen reduces the binding property of bitumen. If the temperature of the bituminous mix has been lowered down then the compaction won't be properly resulting in longitudinal corrugations.
