Bitumen
Bitumen may define
as a solid or semi-solid, black, sticky, ductile substance, obtained as an
important by-product from the distillation of crude petroleum. The usual forms of
bitumen are i) cut back bitumen. ii) Plastic bitumen. iii) Blown bitumen. iv)
Straight run bitumen. v) Bitumen emulsion.
The user of bitumen:
Used a damp-proof course for preventing dampness in walls, floors, and roofs of
buildings; used for lining walls of tanks, swimming pools, and in other such
places. In the form of asphalt mortar and asphalt concrete, it is extensively
used for paving roads in different ways such as surface dressing, grouted
macadam, coated macadam,
etc.; used in the making of water-proof paints and anti-corrosive coatings.
